SCRUTINIZE HIV Campaign Wins Prestigious AfriComNet Award

Scrutinize; Flip HIV to H.I. Victory, a campaign created by the USAID/PEPFAR-funded Johns Hopkins Health and Education in South Africa, was celebrated at the 5th AfriComNet Annual Awards for Excellence in HIV and AIDS Communication in Africa.

Scrutinize was selected out of 10 entries as the Best Multi Channel campaign. The Scrutinize campaign uses animated advertisements to increase young people’s risk perception of HIV infection

Two additional CCP campaigns received honorable mentions at the AfriComNet Awards. Tchova Tchova Life Stories, created by the USAID/PEPFAR-funded Tchova Tchova project in Mozambique, was recognized for its work in the “Community/Interpersonal Category”. Tchova Tchova Life Stories is a series of videos that depicts men, women and couples explaining how they overcame barriers and adopted HIV preventative behaviours.

Go Together Know Together, a USAID-funded campaign run by the Health Communication Partnership in Uganda, was awarded honorable mention in the “Multi Channel Category”. The Go Together, Know Together campaign addresses the increase in the HIV infection rate among married and cohabiting couples and the low rate of couples testing for HIV in Uganda.

46 projects from 13 countries in Africa were considered in the 5th AfriComNet Annual Awards. The awards were presented on December 6, 2011, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and the winning projects presented their initiatives at a session during the 2011 International Conference on AIDS and STIS in Africa (ICASA).
